"Beneath These Stones"    by Carol Laun

The Salmon Brook Historical Society in Granby, Connecticut has published a
book featuring all of the smaller cemeteries in the town (not including the
Granby Center Cemetery which has already been published).  Three of the
cemeteries have disappeared completely and three are on private property and
not accessible without permission.

      14 Granby Cemeteries
        2 East Granby Cemeteries
         Granby Vital Records
          Private Journals

Over 2500 names are listed and most entries include added genealogical
information (parents and/or spouses) as well as military service, occupation
and cause of death, if known.  Interesting epitaphs have also been recorded.
Conflicts in dates and their sources are noted.

Each cemetery has a location map and an alphabetical listing of burials,
including burials with missing stones, burials without stones and possible
burials due to close family relationships.  The two East Granby cemeteries
(Copper Hill and Holcomb) have many burials of Granby residents.

The Granby Vital Records section includes Granby deaths to 1940 and lists
people who died in Granby and are either buried in other towns or the burial
place is unknown.

Names found in private journals, that have a strong Granby connection, are
listed in the Private Journal and Miscellaneous section.  Here also are the
"mystery" stones found in Granby.

There is an index listing all names, including maiden names.  Pages with
abbreviations that were used, sources and a list of diseases with their
modern equivalents are also in the book.  The book is clear, well-organized
and easy to use.
